Duvetnor Society offers many family activities to discover Bas-Saint-Laurent islands. They organize guided tours on boats and on foot. You will learn more about the fauna and flora of our wonderful region. Île aux Lièvres Because Île aux Lièvres is 13 km long, you will need more than a day to explore it all! Discover its natural scenic points, explore its deserted banks full of shrub roses and observe seals peacefully sleeping on the beach. We can guarantee that both children and adults will have fun! Îles du Pot à l’Eau-de-Vie Pot à l’Eau-de-Vie is an archipelago of three islands offering many hiking trails and a guided boat tour. While on the island, you will be able to see breathtaking aquatic bird colonies. You can also visit a lighthouse named Phare du Pot, a historical building erected on a very small promontory.

Parc de la pointe

Located at the end of Loup river, on the St. Lawrence River banks, this beautiful site has a unique scenic point of view on one of the world’s most spectacular sunsets. The park provides camping sites, scenic points, hiking trails, 5 km bike and hike trails, children’s playground (18 months to 12 years old), swing sets for children and mobility-impaired people, sani-station, and picnic tables. Look for the big rock with the Indigenous Head, which has been the littoral trail landmark for more than 50 years. Discover the villas that remind the popularity of the sector in the beginning of the 20th century.

Montagne de Cacouna Scenic Point

Located in the Gros-Cacouna marsh sector, this scenic point offers a panoramic view on the river and sunsets. If you choose to experience this breathtaking and relaxing moment, note that you will have to hike back in the dark. To get there, walk the 2 km trail called “Sentier de la Montagne.” It goes 80 metres up in a typical mixed wood Nordic forest. At the top, you will find many panoramic stops to observe the islands and the St. Lawrence River. You might even see white whales!

Manoir Fraser is a prestigious seigniorial residence that was perfectly restored. It is an interpretation centre about Fraser lords and their influence on the region. Discover how they built a picturesque city with the tour named “À la découverte du Vieux Rivière-du-loup et de ses églises.” At Manoir Fraser, children always have fun! In fact, they can participate in the family game named “Libérez le fantôme d’Alice Fraser” (Liberate Alice Fraser’s ghost). Alice Fraser is a girl who got caught in a digital application. Interesting fact: the Manoir was built in 1830 and the Fraser lords lived in it during the 19th century!

Enjoy a relaxed, historical, and cultural moment at Parc de l’Anse, where you can visit the authentic schoolhouse, built along the river. École de l’Anse was rewarded twice with Prix du patrimoine, a price that honours the restoration of the original building and the many visual effects created inside. In the old school, you can find exhibitions, photos and videos of the traditional education and village vitality. The exhibition was created in collaboration with Musée de la mémoire vivante de Saint-Jean-Port-Joli, that gave a lot of historical accounts. Numerous activities are offered at École de l’Anse, such as direct access to the river, children’s playground, picnic tables, geocaching, treasure hunts, petanque courts and bicycle rental.

Matuweskewin Native Art Shop

Matuweskewin Native Art Shop and Museum displays Malecite traditional techniques and art with Native unique and original work. HISTORICAL FACT! Located on the Cacouna Malecite community reserve, Denis-Launière traditional house is the last feature illustrating the Malecite presence in Bas-Saint-Laurent. Built in 1890, this house is now a Malecite interpretation centre. Matuweskewin is a Native word meaning “porcupine hunter.”

The tiny lighthouse represents Saint-André’s old lighthouse, once located on “Le Long Pèlerin” island. Publiqu’Art is an open-air exhibition that changes perceptions on Québec’s contemporary art.

These tours make you travel in the cultural and historical background in which our community was created in 1673. These tours are offered with a podcast and information boards. Meet Cacouna’s first inhabitants and travel through its river and important places with “Le Cacouna maritime.” Then, discover Cacouna’s built heritage and seaside destination history with “La Petite randonnée” and “La Grande randonnée.” Finally, learn about Émile Nelligan’s poetry by exploring the places he visited between 1886 and 1898 with “Sur les traces de Nelligan.”
